Recently, I was kindly gifted a menstrual cup from BeYou. Having used cups for several years, I was really excited to see what a different brand had to offer. BeYou is a brand focused on creating natural and science-backed products. A quote from their website states; “our products aim to encourage dialogue, while each purchase helps us to invest in bridging the associated gender gap in medical research.” You can read more about their company background and ethos here.

First Impressions

I’ve shopped at BeYou a few times and their postage is really fast. The cup arrived in a discrete cardboard box with no mention that it was a sanitary product on the outside. BeYou included a sticker on the box showing their brand name but this was it in terms of anything recognisable.

I chose the smaller of the two sizes despite this not being the ‘correct’ choice in terms of my demographic. BeYou advises the following on their website:

‘- If you haven’t had children it’s very easy. If you’re under 25 years old, get the medium cup, and if you’re older than 25 get a large menstrual cup.

– If you’ve had a vaginal birth then get the large menstrual cup.

– If you’ve had a caesarean and are under 25 years old, get the medium cup, and if you’re older than 25 get a large menstrual cup.’

Given that I’m 26 and have not had children, technically I should have opted for the larger option but, as I interchangeably wear both smaller and larger cups in other brands, I went for the smaller option as I tend to favour the smaller cups in my collection. BeYou also advises listening to your own body to make a decision on which size to go for as everyone’s anatomy is different so there really isn’t a hard and fast rule.

My BeYou cup is a medium pink colour which I really like. I’m hopeful that this tone will mitigate the visible staining that often builds up on cups over time. The silicone is fairly soft – not as firm as my Mooncup UK but not so soft that it could be considered unusual as far as cups go. The suction release holes are large enough for me to feel confident they are getting cleaned when run under fresh water.

Inside the box, BeYou include a comprehensive guide on how to use and care for the cup as well as a really nice quality storage bag with the brand’s signature teal colour on the inside (teal is one of my favourite colours so a big win in my books!).

Using the BeYou Menstrual Cup – Review

As is normal for me, I completely removed the stem of the cup. This is to ensure the best fit as my cervix tends to dip quite low during menstruation so longer stems can often feel like they’re poking out. The ridges on the bottom of the BeYou cup allowed me to easily remove the cup without the stem which is great as smoother cups can sometimes be difficult to work with.

I really enjoyed the firmness level of the cup as it was soft enough for me to completely forget I was wearing it but still agreeable with my pelvic floor strength (some find that softer cups can get crushed with increased pelvic floor strength, which may lead to leaks). This also meant that I was easily able to bend it to break the suction when it came time to remove it. The overall quality of the silicone was also really soft and comfortable to use.

I’m pleased to report that I did not experience any leaks with the BeYou menstrual cup and can honestly say that I would consider it a good option for those new to cups.
