Why Was I Interested In Leaf Shave?
For a long time now, I’ve been looking for plastic-free razor options. I’d tried a few different ‘standard’ safety razors (my favourite being Bareaya) but found that I couldn’t shave my bikini line with them and would often cut my legs due to my skin type. Unfortunately, this meant that when I wanted to shave my bikini area or tried to do my legs in a hurry, I would often revert to a plastic cartridge razor. The only positive in that was that I would often keep using the same cartridge for a long time as I never noticed them going too blunt due to less frequent usage.
What Is the Leaf Shave Razor?
The Leaf Shave razor is a type of safety razor. It provides a zero-waste shaving option as it requires only single-edge metal blades as opposed to plastic cartridges. The Leaf razor can be loaded with 1 to 3 blades depending on personal preference. The head also moves to comfortably glide over the contours of your skin. The razor comes in a variety of finishes. When blades go blunt, they are fully recyclable.

My Overall Thoughts
From the first use, I really fell in love with this razor. I found it much easier to use compared with the learning curve that comes with standard safety razors. I also love that the moving head of it is able to conform to the contours of my body – this means I have been able to do my entire body without returning to the cartridge razor for some areas. The fact that I can put 3 blades in also gives me a really close shave which I just never felt I could achieve with safety razors. I also haven’t accidentally cut myself nearly as much.
The images used in this blog post are of my actual razor. I’m happy to report that so far, at a few years old, the finish is still looking great which is more than I can say for some other brands I’ve used, which have quickly rusted or tarnished despite drying them after use.

Here are some of my quick pros and cons of Leaf Shave:
The Pros of Leaf Shave
- It only needs fully recyclable single-edged blades. This makes it very eco-friendly and affordable. If you have double-edged safety razor blades at home, they can be carefully snapped in half to fit in the Leaf.
- Easy to switch blades. To change the blades, you turn a screw on the top of its head and simply slot in the new blades after removing blunt ones. When you’re done, just tighten the screw again.
- Customisable blade choice. You can choose whether you load it with 1, 2 or all 3 blades. I like to do all 3 as it’s very similar to a multiblade cartridge razor but I’ve seen some people online say they just load 1 to suit their personal needs.
- Great shave. I find it very easy to use and the results are great. My partner also uses it (with fresh blades obviously) for his face and has enjoyed great results.
Cons of Leaf Shave
- Initial investment. The price is quite high for a razor but, if you’re the type of person who already subscribes to a pricey cartridge blade subscription plan or picks up expensive branded blades at the supermarket, you’d likely make your money back fairly quickly.
- Not ideal for everyone. Like all safety razors, handling and loading loose blades can be difficult for some groups of people (physical disabilities, feel that exposed blades are triggering, etc). Of course, this won’t apply to everyone but I wanted to mention it as it doesn’t seem to come up very often in the conversation about zero waste shaving.
Would I Recommend Leaf Shave Razors?
I love my Leaf Shave. I’m hoping that it lasts a long time and stays looking as beautiful as it does currently. I’d definitely recommend this to someone who is looking for a plastic-free hair removal option but might struggle with the current safety razor designs on the market.
