Introduction to Spotlight Oral Care

I’ve never had much luck with my teeth. Despite seeing a dentist religiously, getting treatments as needed and being extremely specific with the products I use at home, I don’t have perfect teeth – far from it. I recall nasty comments in my teenage years – they’d say how my teeth were ‘brown’ or ‘wavy’, but I knew (and my dentist knew) I was doing the best I could.

In life, I also love all things that naturally stain teeth – red wine, black coffee, foods with colourful spices… I’ve arrived at a place where I’m confident enough that as long as my mouth is healthy, I’m following recommendations from my dentist and my teeth look reasonable in photos then that’s it and there’s no more I can do to enhance my natural smile.

A few weeks ago, Spotlight Oral Care reached out to me to see if I’d like to test anything from the brand. I was curious as, not only do they offer a sonic toothbrush (Mike swears by one, I’ve always used oscillating-rotating types), but they also have a range of whitening products for home use. I’ve tried whitening strips and polishing powders before but had mixed results. I also often experienced intense sensitivity from some of these products which would force me to discontinue use.

Unboxing and First Impressions

Spotlight Oral Care kindly sent me their Sonic Pro Starter Bundle which includes:

On unboxing, I was immediately impressed by how well-presented each of the products was. Everything gave the impression of being very professional and high quality.

Setting up the toothbrush was incredibly easy – all I needed to do was pop on a new head and put it on charge before its first use.

Spotlight Oral Care Review

Something that immediately shocked me about the brand was that absolutely none of the products gave me any kind of sensitivity. I’m someone who has booked in to see the dentist due to pain, only to be told there was absolutely nothing wrong and that it was my sensitivity acting up due to incorrect product choices. Given that the Spotlight Oral Care products I tested were focused on whitening, I was fully expecting issues in this area but none ever developed.

Throughout the test period, my mouth felt incredibly clean with no issues with my gums (I feel it worth mentioning as some powders can be very abrasive to the point where my gums have felt off).

Pros and cons

Pros

• Clean feel – both the toothpaste and powder left a really nice clean feeling after use with no irritation.
• High-quality products – the toothbrush feels really high quality with the battery lasting well. In the 2 weeks I’ve been testing these products, I would ordinarily charge my usual toothbrush twice in this time – Spotlight Oral Care advises their toothbrush has a battery life of up to 70 days.
• No sensitivity or adverse effects – as mentioned previously, I have experienced zero sensitivity or adverse effects from switching to Spotlight Oral Care products.
• Results – I’m really happy with my before and after shots. While not a night-and-day difference, I can definitely see that my teeth are brighter since using the products.
• Travel-friendly – I really love the travel case the toothbrush came with. It’s light enough not to add too much weight to my luggage but still very sturdy.

Cons

• Toothpaste lid – this is so petty to mention but I found the cap really difficult to get open on the toothpaste, to a point where I began leaving it open a slight bit. While this won’t matter to some people, it was definitely a struggle for me, so I wanted to bring it up as those with hand mobility issues may also find it difficult. Edit to add: I’ve since purchased 2x more tubes of the toothpaste and not experienced this issue so perhaps it was a one off!
• Price – in a world where you can purchase toothpaste at a very affordable price at local discount stores, Spotlight Oral Care is definitely priced at a higher point. For me personally though, I feel it is worth it, given how I’ve achieved brighter teeth without extreme sensitivity. It is also worth mentioning that the Starter Bundle I had the opportunity to test is, in my opinion, very good value for money vs purchasing each item separately.
• Toothbrush head – as someone who has used the round, Oral B toothbrush heads for most of my life, I’ve struggled to adapt to the larger head of the Spotlight Oral Care brush. I personally have my top two wisdom teeth so need to ensure they are thoroughly cleaned with the limited space available back there. I’m not 100% sure that I’m able to do that with the larger brush head of the brand’s brush. I’d love to see a smaller brush head available in the future from them.

Conclusion

Spotlight Oral Care managed to do what dozens of other brands couldn’t: brighten my smile while keeping my sensitive teeth happy. If you’re looking to try something new in the world of oral care, this starter bundle is the perfect place to begin.
