At the end of 2024, I found myself reflecting on the year—what worked, what didn’t, and where I was at in life. After a challenging year, I knew I needed to prioritize myself in 2025. While some may view this as selfish, I truly believe that you can’t help others until you’ve taken care of yourself first. It’s like the safety briefing on a plane—put your own oxygen mask on before assisting others.

In this post, I want to share the things I’m hoping to implement (or revisit) in 2025 to hopefully feel healthier and happier in my own skin.

Keeping a Food Diary

new years resolutions 2025 - YAZIO app

Logging my food and tracking calories has always been an effective way for me to maintain a balanced diet. It may not be for everyone, but for me—and for many people I know—it serves as a simple way to enjoy the foods I love while keeping everything in balance. In 2024, I found YAZIO to be the best app for this, surpassing my previous favourites. You can read my full review here, but in short, I love how positive and motivational the app feels. It includes features like Streaks, which keep you coming back every day, and the Facebook community is supportive, with great moderation.

My goal is not to lose weight but to nourish my body with the foods I choose and fuel my energy for the sports I love. While I did well sticking to this habit for a while, life events caused me to lose focus. One thing I’ve learned from the YAZIO community is that it’s okay to start again—many times, if needed—rather than giving up altogether.

If you’re looking for an app to help you reach your goals, here’s a YAZIO discount (it’ll take you to the onboarding process with 40% off). I’m starting again on January 1st!

Meditation

Meditation has been a cornerstone of my life. That might sound intense, but looking back, the most successful periods of my life have been those when I had a solid meditation practice. By “successful,” I mean that I’ve felt at peace with myself and others, motivated, and resilient. I used to meditate for 10 minutes every evening while at university but lost the habit. I still manage a few sessions a week, but in 2025, I’m committed to solidifying this practice again.

Focus on Self-Care

If you’ve read my previous article on self-care, you’ll know I consider it much more than bubble baths and scented candles. In 2025, I’d like to focus on the following:

  • Recognise when my social battery is drained and prioritising alone time. I’ve learned recently how important alone time is—it helps me recharge and ensures I’m at my best when I return to social situations.
  • Continuing to work on not comparing myself to others. This will always be a challenge for me, but it’s something I’ll keep working on.
  • Treating my body with respect, which means maintaining a food diary, getting enough exercise, and taking care of my appearance in ways that help me feel good.

Mental Health

In the past, I’ve allowed others to speak to me in ways that weren’t respectful, simply because I didn’t think I had the right to walk away. While I can’t go into all the details here, what I’ve learned is that it’s important to recognize when it’s time to exit a situation or relationship that no longer serves me. The ability to politely excuse myself from a negative environment is something I want to continue working on.

Challenging Myself

In mid-to-late 2024, I began learning new skills, including crochet, after some friends kindly taught me during a holiday. It’s a skill I always told myself I couldn’t master—I thought I didn’t have the brain for it. The truth is, I was wrong. After some patience, I realized it wasn’t as difficult as I’d made it out to be in my mind. This experience has mirrored others, and I’m now ready to commit to regularly challenging myself to see what I’m truly capable of when I give myself the chance.

Conclusion – New Years Resolutions 2025

As I look ahead to 2025, I’m filled with excitement and determination to embrace these practices that will help me become the healthiest, happiest version of myself. It’s not about perfection, but progress—nurturing the things that make me feel balanced, motivated, and at peace. Whether it’s mindful eating, meditation, self-care, or challenging myself in new ways, I’m ready to embrace the journey. By prioritizing my well-being, I hope to continue growing, not just for myself but for the people around me as well. Here’s to a year of transformation, self-love, and making the most of every moment.
