Introduction
Before, I’ve touched on the fact that I enjoy seeking more natural alternatives for various everyday products. I also try to be conscious of the sustainability profile of the brands I use where possible. Given this, I wanted to create this post where I’ll be breaking down the similarities and differences between Wild and Fussy. These are two popular brands of natural deodorant, both with a focus on sustainability at the core of their products. I’ve been fortunate enough to be able to try both for a decent amount of time, so I now feel able to give a full comparison and opinion.
For context, I’ve written full reviews on both Fussy and Wild in the past so it may be useful to refer to those for a more in-depth discussion. However, something I would like to reiterate for the purpose of any new readers is the position I am coming from. I’m someone who loves to work out in a variety of different ways. I’m also someone who is incredibly busy and always rushing around. Given this, any deodorants I try have a high level of expectation to live up to and, in the past, many conventional store brands have failed this test – neither Fussy nor Wild failed me.
I also would like to insert the brief disclaimer here that anything I write is purely my own opinion – everyone is different and what works well for one person may not work for another.
The Similarities and Differences Between Fussy and Wild Deodorant
For this section, I’ll bullet point each aspect for clarity:
Similarities
- Reusable packaging – both brands work by utilising a reusable casing. When you need a refill, you simply open the case and insert a compostable refill cartridge of the deodorant.
- Creamy formula – the formulas are in stick/cream format as opposed to sprays or jars.
- Subscription service – both offer a convenient subscription service to obtain refills which can be helpful if you cannot find them in your local shops.
- Sensitive range – for those with sensitive skin, both brands have the option of opting for their sensitive formula.
- Ingredient transparency – both Wild and Fussy are incredibly transparent about the ingredients they use and for what reasons.
Differences
- Availability – I find Fussy harder to pick up in stores local to me. Only one giant Tesco stocked it while Wild is far more common to see on shelves. This is only a minor issue however considering both are available online and it may only be relevant to me and the area I live.
- Casing materials – Wild utilises multiple materials for its casing and, at the end of its life, can only be sent for recycling via TerraCycle. Fussy’s casing is only made from one kind of plastic which makes recycling it more of a simple process.
- Formula – Fussy utilises probiotics in the formula while Wild does not.
My Personal Opinions and Preferences – Fussy Vs Wild
I have a few different points to touch on here as it isn’t as simple as having clear-cut favourites. Firstly, I love the casing on Wild’s deodorant. I love the shininess as well as the fact it stands up nicely on my dressing table. Unfortunately, I do find that my Fussy deodorant will fall over fairly easily due to the small surface area of the base, I do have a very creaky house however! I’m also torn as I prefer that Fussy’s casing can be recycled more easily when it comes to the end of its life.
Besides appearances, I personally find that Fussy works best for me in terms of all-day wear tests. As mentioned in my original Wild review, I needed to gravitate towards their strongest scent option to remain odour-free, with Fussy, I can choose any of their fragrances and have no issues. It’s this reliability that means I continue to repurchase Fussy. As a side note here though, my fiancé really loves Wild so there is something to be said about individual preferences and different people’s body types!
I really wish that Fussy was as easily available in stores near me as Wild. This is one personal critique of mine as I prefer to buy things in-store rather than online most of the time.
Overall, I would personally recommend Fussy first if a friend were to be looking for a new deodorant to try, simply because of how effective it is for me. I want to end by saying that both are very good options though and it very much comes down to personal preference. Both have sustainability at the heart of their products and their transparency of ingredients/formula is something that makes me really confident in either brand.
